FITT Principles

In all exercises, you should have a set goal of what you would like to accomplish during that time. The FITT guidelines will help you out tremendously in setting up any type of exercise program. Here is what FITT stands for:
-Frequency
-Intensity
-Time
-Type
Frequency- How often a person does physical activity. Most every day, people should be engaged in moderate physical activity. Vigorous physical activity should be performed 3-5 days a week.
Intensity-When you are doing moderate physical activity, your target heart rate should be in between 50% -70%.  When your target heart rate falls in between 70%-85%, you are doing vigorous physical activity.
Time- Is the length in which you perform the physical activity. Adults need at least 2 hours and 30 minutes every week of moderate physical activity. They also need two or more days that work all major muscle groups. For vigorous physical activity, they need at least 1 hour and 15 minutes per week.
Type- Is the specific type of physical activity chosen based on the components of health-related fitness. A person could do aerobic, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.  For instance if you wanted to go on a jog, that would  be considered aerobic fitness.
Hopefully you will be able to use these principles to help you have a better workout!
